 JOSHUA'S CLARINET LESSONS

July 24, 2025

Hi Joshua!

You are really cooking along, kid!!!

Remember, if notes aren't responding correctly, check these things:

1) keep your head up and the clarinet close to your body (your chin may even touch the ligature screws)

2) use the "eeee" voicing inside your mouth (hissing like a cat)

3) your right index finger (make sure it's not leaking air from its curved side/the top of the clarinet hole)

4) your left thumb (make sure the fleshiest part is covering the thumb hole and just use the left "corner" of the thumb to open the register key

ASSIGNMENT for next lesson

In the EXERCISES section below:

-Practice the Morning Mood sheet - all of p. 1

In the TUNES section:

- I didn't get to hear Second Line this week (I'll hear it next week)

And here's a playlist to

check out sometime:

Exercises-
Get going with this sheet - can you practice all of p. 1 this week?
Get going with the 2 sheets in C Major and the 2 sheets in F Major from this link. Remember: don't worry if some things are too hard at the moment. Just do your best and we'll work out the tricky bits together:
As we talked about today, we think that you've been using the Standard of Excellence method book in band. You can bring your book next week (or we can just use this copy on my iPad).
Can you figure out how far you got in this book in school this year?
This is a link to a couple of very short videos about reading notes - I think you're solid with this material, but I'm putting this up just in case you find yourself confused about any of this info.
Future technique sheets (I like to post assignments that we will ultimately be learning - these are not yet part of your official assignment, but you can always check them out if you are curious):
