JOHN'S CLARINET CLASS
Dec 18, 2024
Hi John!
YOUR ASSIGNMENT
- Check out the red link below to Wintry Holiday Tunes! You know a lot of notes and I'll bet you can figure out any ones you don't know (use the fingering chart in the back of your book)
- In your Standard of Excellence book practice p. 9-10
- In the EXERCISES section, practice all of p. 1 of the pdf Diatonic Bits
- In the TUNES section, practice the duets (Aura Lee and This Old Man)
- practice When the Saints along with the new recording
Things to remember:
- soft fingers cover holes better
- reed must have just a sliver of the black mouthpiece peeking up from behind the tip
- put your feet up on your case to help you rest the clarinet on your knees
Exercises-
Book: practice ALL of p. 9 and p. 10 (p. 10 has Jolly Old St. Nicholas duet!):
Practice all of p. 1:
TUNES-
PRACTICE the top part these sets of duets:
LISTEN to Louis Armstrong play and sing When the Saints Go Marching In. Then play the melody from the pdf:
Here is another recording of Saints - it's quite different than Mr. Armstrong's but this one is in your same key, so you can PUT YOUR HEADPHONES ON AND PLAY ALONG!
The actual song begins at :30 into the track:
Below is a recording of orchestra and choir performing Ode to Joy and also the pdf; when you are comfortable withe the notes, you can play along with the top track and then also try playing along with the bottom track (as a harmony/duet part):
Ode to Joy (top part, low clar)
00:00 / 01:18
Ode to Joy (bottom part, low clar)
