Thelonious Sphere Monk (1917 - was one of the most innovative composers in jazz. He also played piano in his own unique style.

His compositions often have quirky titles and rhythmic complexity. The rhythmic complexity comes from taking a simple melodic fragment and repeating it at different places in the measure.
